At IFA 2023, LG Electronics (LG) will introduce its LG Smart Cottage housing solution. The Smart Cottage is a small, prefabricated house that features the latest in LG smart home technology, including state-of-the-art HVAC and energy solutions. LG Smart Cottage ushers in a new standard for household design by combining high-end appliances and services with cutting-edge modular building technology and methods.
The sustainable two-story studio-style Smart Cottage fits LG’s vision of a Better Life for All by providing a practical, comfortable, and efficient living environment. The modular home is portable and has all the conveniences of a home. ReportLinker estimates that the global prefabricated house market will be worth USD 22.9 billion by 2028, growing at a CAGR of 4.8% between 2023 and 2028.
LG’s ‘soft, sturdy, and elegant’ design and the harmonizing use of varied materials, such as hardwood, tile, and brass, give the interior a calming, high-end vibe. The reusable modules of the house are manufactured from low-carbon steel materials made by POSCO, a prominent South Korean steel firm, to lessen the home’s environmental impact.
In LG Smart Cottage, you can find a number of cutting-edge, energy-saving LG kitchen, living, and air solutions, such as a WashTower Compact, QuadWashTM dishwasher, as well as other built-in appliances, a water purifier, and a Therma VTM Monobloc air-to-water heat pump (AWHP). LG’s energy-efficient AWHP not only provides year-round indoor comfort without requiring as much electricity as a standard heating and cooling system, but it can also provide a reliable supply of hot water when linked to the 200-liter-capacity Integrated Water Tank (IWT).

LG Smart Cottage: The Future of Modular Housing
The Smart Cottage’s façade has LG sustainable technology that powers the two residents all day. Rooftop solar panels hooked to the company’s Energy Storage System may generate 15 kWh per day. It is possible to sell any excess energy to the contracted electricity provider or store it in the ESS for later use. Homeowners of LG’s modular home will also have easy access to an electric vehicle (EV) charger without having to install one themselves.
All of the appliances in this amazing home are LG ThinQ-enabled, allowing for a streamlined and comfortable user experience. The ThinQ app provides seamless appliance management, HVAC system control, and real-time monitoring of energy storage and consumption. In addition, LG ThinQ integrates with other IoT security devices in the Smart Cottage, such as cameras, motion sensors, and smart doorbells, to ensure the safety and comfort of its residents.
South Korean construction and civil engineering firm GS Engineering & Construction Corp (GS E&C) collaborated with LG to bring the Smart Cottage to life.
“Far more than just a prefabricated home, LG Smart Cottage is an innovative housing solution that facilitates a sustainable lifestyle through state-of-the-art ThinQ connectivity,” said Lyu Jae-cheol, president of LG Electronics’ Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. LG’s goal is to “redefine residential living” by incorporating its energy solutions, appliances, and services into an environment that promotes individual freedom.
