After the 2024 season, Lewis Hamilton will no longer be a part of the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team. Lewis will not be continuing with the Silver Arrows for the upcoming season as he has exercised a release option in his contract, which was disclosed in August.
The announcement ends a 17-year association with Mercedes-Benz in Formula One and an 11-year collaboration with the works team.
Team Principal and CEO Toto Wolff said:
Our partnership with Lewis has become the most successful between a team and a driver in the sport’s history. We’re proud of that, and Lewis will always be an important part of Mercedes racing history. But we both knew that our partnership would end on its own at some point and now it has. We agree with Lewis’s choice to look for a new task, and it’s exciting to think about the possibilities for the future. But for now, we still have one season left, and our only goal is to race hard to have a great 2024.
Lewis Hamilton also said:
What a great 11 years I’ve had with this team! I’m so proud of all we’ve done together. Since I was 13, Mercedes has been a part of my life. As someone who grew up there, I had to make one of the hardest choices I have ever made: leave. But now is the right time for me to do this, and I’m looking forward to the task. I will always be thankful for how much my Mercedes family has helped me, especially Toto for being a great friend and boss. I want us all to end on a high note. My only goal this season is to give my best performance and make my last year with the Silver Arrows one to remember.
