The new music vote for the week is led by Ice Spice and their track “Princess Diana (Remix)” which features Nicki Minaj.
According to a poll that appeared in Billboard on Friday (April 14), the hip-hop duet was the most popular new music release in the previous week.
Nearly 37% of voters chose “Princess Diana (Remix)” above other new songs by SZA featuring Doja Cat (“Kill Bill (Remix)”), Post Malone (“Chemical”), Kelly Clarkson (“Mine / Me”), and Metallica (“72 Seasons)”.
Ice Spice’s current tune follows the success of her other 2023 collaborations, including “Boy’s a Liar Pt. 2” with PinkPantheress and “Gangsta Boo,” a collaboration with Lil Tjay on her Like..? EP.
The “Princess Diana (Remix)” not only has Minaj’s stamp of approval but also deftly incorporates Diana’s outsized image into the realm of an already excellent song. Minaj adds additional highlights such as, “She the princess, so f— who you lames is?” after the Bronx rapper’s smooth cadence and internal rhymes slide across the groove.
SZA’s “Kill Bill (Remix)” featuring Doja Cat came in third on the fan-voted poll, behind Ice Spice and Minaj. Malone’s “Chemical,” a pop-centric, summer-ready track, received 15% of the vote and came in third place.
