The reign of Kylie Jenner as the most followed female on Instagram has ended, at least for the time being. PopFaction, a fan account for celebrity news, said this morning that Selena Gomez now has more followers than Jenner. Gomez was previously the most followed woman on the platform. Despite Jenner’s lead as recently as 10 AM EST, Gomez has since pulled ahead.
Gomez’s 380,644,778 followers gave her the lead at 6:25 PM EST. With 380,425,729 followers, Jenner is not far behind.
Despite Gomez’s increased Instagram activity as of late, she revealed to Vanity Fair earlier this month that she only uses the video-sharing app TikTok. She stopped using Instagram years ago, and now a helper posts to her page for her.
Gomez has said, “I never got the chance to go to an actual high school,” explaining her decision to withdraw from most forms of social media. For a long time, the world served as my high school, and I eventually became inundated with material I had no interest in reading. After a painful breakup, I refused to read any comments, not just those that compared me to my ex. There would be thousands of encouraging remarks, but I can only remember the cruelest.
I don’t care if people call me ugly or stupid. But,” she went on, “these people get detailed. “They have such a penchant for penning viciously specific paragraphs. I would cry all the time. My worries never stopped… As much as I tried, I couldn’t continue. I should not have spent my time there.
TikTok, she said, was the only app she kept on her phone because she found it to be the least hostile. Connecting with fans, witnessing their joy, and hearing their stories are two of social media’s many positive aspects. The reality, however, is that [for me now] that is typically filtered out. For this, I developed a method. My assistant publishes all of my work after I send it to her. My staff and I will compile some positive feedback shortly.
