TikTok might soon be banned in the U.S., but there’s a plan to keep it alive in a new form. ByteDance, the company behind TikTok, is working on a new version of the app just for the U.S. It’s called M2, and it could launch as early as September 5th.
This is all because U.S. laws say TikTok must sell its American operations to a U.S.-based or U.S.-allied company, or it will be banned entirely. President Trump said a deal is “pretty much” done, but China still needs to approve it. If the deal goes through, M2 would show up in app stores, and the current version of TikTok could disappear by March.

Several big names are trying to take over the U.S. version of TikTok. One of the leading groups is headed by billionaire Frank McCourt Jr. Other names in the mix include Larry Ellison (Oracle), MrBeast (YouTuber), Kevin O’Leary (aka Mr. Wonderful), Microsoft, and Perplexity AI, an AI startup growing fast in tech circles..
So for now, keep an eye out — M2 might be the future of TikTok in America.
