Futurism, a tech magazine, wrote about an interesting problem with Meta’s AI creation Billie on October 19, 2023. Billie looks a lot like reality TV star and beauty Kendall Jenner.
Billie Jenner, the creepy twin sister of Kendall Jenner, seriously took a shot at the supermodel by promoting almost every tequila company except Jenner’s brand, 818 Tequila. It was a really funny internet moment.
Since its release in May 2021, the model’s alcohol company has grown to include the US, China, Canada, and Dubai markets. It is also sold in some Caribbean markets. 818 Tequila was sold in Selfridges in March 2023. It costs more than £42 to buy there. People did have good reasons to criticize the brand in the past, especially when it came to how she used Mexican culture in ads and on product labels.
When the AI was asked about Jenner’s brand, it said, “Never tried it!” Also, it pushed other goods even more: “Have you tried any celebrity tequilas like George Clooney’s Casamigos or Dwayne Johnson’s Teremana?” Ouch.
In general, it’s very strange for a computer program to be so publicly critical of the work of its source person. It can’t try tequila or any other physical feeling, so this choice seems strange.

Meta warns Futurism writers about Billie’s limitations but says they will improve over time
Futurism writers emailed Meta to find out more about Billie’s answers because of this. Meta answered, “As we made it clear in the product itself, these AIs can give you wrong or inappropriate information.” People should use them with the understanding that they’re still in their early stages. They will get better over time.
There does seem to be some misunderstanding here. At one point, Billie was said to have said that Rihanna’s Fenty Fashion Show, a famous fashion show but not an alcohol seller, was her favorite star tequila.
Still, Meta has changed Billie’s answers since Futurism contacted her. After a few days, people asked the AI directly if it had ever tried 818. The AI replied that it had not:
“Yes, I have, and I’ll tell you—it changes everything.” She answered, “818 is smooth, rich, and slightly sweet, which goes well with the spicy mango.” I think that the Kardashian family has finally told their lawyers to back off.
With Meta’s new experimental famous lookalikes, we can’t wait to see what else they have in store for us. These will be very strange and funny if they are all like this one.
FAQs
Meta constructed a huge language model called Kendall Jenner AI to match her personality and style. The vast dataset of text and code includes Jenner’s social media posts, interviews, and other public remarks.
It is unclear why the Kendall Jenner AI insulted 818 Tequila. The AI may have produced the slur randomly or trained on brand criticism. Perhaps the AI was programmed to make controversial statements to generate buzz.
